You might know her from South Africa’s formidable musical trio BlackByrd, but singer-songwriter Tasha proves that she is much more than just one thing.

While working on various creative projects, she is currently taking part in songwriting sessions and working on future solo releases.

Tasha's latest single, ‘Hou My Aan ’n Lyntjie’, is here, and on Friday, 14 November, she joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to talk about her new single and, of course, like we do every Friday, treat us to a Friday Live performance.

Tasha delivered an amazing performance of Die Heuwels Fantasties' 'Klein Tambotieboom'.

'Hou My Aan 'n Lyntjie'

'Hou My Aan 'n Lyntjie' is a fresh and honest single that promises to touch hearts and get feet moving.

"I was in the studio and just started playing around with sounds. When I hummed a melody, the words just came to me," Tasha explains.

The single grew out of a moment of creative freedom and emotional honesty.

It was written by Tasha herself, together with her BlackByrd sister Tasché Burger.

The title perfectly captures the essence of the song, that feeling of being caught in a relationship or situation where you do not quite have control.

"I think everyone has, at some point in their life, been kept on a string," says Tasha. "I want people to know it is okay to cut that string."

The music video for 'Hou My Aan 'n Lyntjie' has already been filmed in Cape Town.

"For me, there is beauty in the most painful situations," she says.

The video offers a unique perspective on how people grow and find beauty, even in difficult times.

She hopes that people will not only enjoy the rhythm and melody, but also notice the deeper meaning.

"I want people to dance, but also to realise that they are allowed to choose not to be kept on a string anymore," she says.

The single is an invitation to take back control of your own life with a smile on your face. The song is meant for everyone, young and old, who has ever felt trapped in a situation without control.

More about Tasha

Tasha made her mark as a talented artist after receiving praise for her performances when she competed in the first season of 'Die Kontrak', a reality singing competition, in 2018

Even then, it was predicted that she would go on to leave a significant imprint on the music industry.

According to Tasha, 'Die Kontrak' opened new doors for her in the Afrikaans music industry and enabled her to reach a new level.

Today, she finds herself as one-third of the pop-country group BlackByrd, alongside Tarryn Lamb and Tasché.

One of the highlights of her career was being part of BlackByrd and singing alongside international star Bonnie Tyler.

This experience inspired her to follow her own voice and develop her unique style.
