BMW and Kia drivers are perceived as the most dangerous motorists on South African roads, according to a recent survey.

Car insurance expert MoneySuperMarket surveyed 4,800 drivers in over 20 countries, including South Africa, the UK, the USA, Brazil, and Australia.

Although both BMW and Kia drivers topped the list for worst drivers, the reasons differed like night and day.

According to IOL, BMW drivers were voted the most dangerous motorists for "driving too fast," "driving too aggressively," and "not signalling/indicating."

Clearly, BMW drivers aren’t doing much to fight the stereotype.

Kia drivers, on the other hand, were called out for "driving too slowly."

Toyota, Volvo, Hyundai, and Honda drivers came in just behind Kia for slow driving.

Bad at parking

Those who drive Teslas were perceived as the worst at parking, followed by drivers of Fords, Hyundais, BMWs, and Kias.

Driving too fast

BMW drivers are followed by Mercedes, Audi, Tesla, and Subaru for driving too fast.

Driving too aggressively

Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi followed BMW as the most aggressive drivers.

Even though BMW drivers are perceived as driving too fast, the facts show something different.

Research from MoneySuperMarket revealed that Audi actually has the most speeding offences declared on insurance policies. BMW only ranked fifth on this list, behind Volkswagen, Mercedes, and Honda.

In the UK, however, Audi, Volkswagen, and Vauxhall still have fewer driving offences than BMW drivers.

Drivers with the safest habits

Volvo drivers were perceived as the most "courteous and polite," followed by Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, and Honda.

When it came to drivers who let others merge on roads, Toyota drivers topped the list, followed by Kia, Volvo, Hyundai, and Nissan drivers.

Volvo again topped the list for using turn signals properly and being good at parking.

"The study highlights personality assumptions linked to car ownership," the researchers said.

"Toyota and Volvo drivers are most often seen as practical and sensible, while Hyundai drivers are perceived globally as modest and humble."
