Superstar Tyla took over Gold Reef City to celebrate her new ‘A*Pop’ album.
Despite her rise to global stardom, South African singer Tyla has not forgotten her roots.
After accepting her second AfriPure International Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), the global star treated fans to an official takeover of the famous Gold Reef City.
The ‘Water’ hitmaker took over the theme park to celebrate the release of her ‘A*Pop’ album.
Gold Reef City was turned into an ‘A*Pop’-themed park, with pink merchandise, photo booths and even pink burgers and pizza on the menu.
Of course, Tyla also treated her fans to a live performance.
“I’m so happy that you guys came through. You guys look beautiful. We’re gonna have fun. I want you guys to enjoy, have a good time. It’s crazy. I did not think it would be this crazy,” she said on stage, in awe of the turnout.
Social media was also flooded with videos of the singer enjoying some of the theme park rides at Gold Reef City.

SAMAs 2026
The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) took place on Saturday, 15 August, at the Sun City Super Bowl in the North West, bringing together some of the biggest names in South Africa’s entertainment industry for a night of music, performances and major accolades.
The ceremony also included special honours for two major figures in the music industry. Global South African star Tyla received the AfriPure International Achievement Award for the second time.
In her acceptance speech, the two-time Grammy winner expressed how honoured she was to receive the award.
“Hello, South Africa! Thank you, guys, so much, guys. I can't even explain the feeling I have right now standing on this stage. This is my first time at the SAMAs, and I just remember being a little girl dreaming of this day,” she said in her acceptance speech.
The 24-year-old went on to thank South Africans for walking the journey with her and for the support she has been receiving.
“And honestly, I don’t have many words to say. There’s never been a ‘Tyla’ before me, and I don’t have a roadmap. I don’t have someone to call and ask how they did things and which steps to take. So, as I stumbled through my career and my life now, growing up as a woman and an artist in front of the world, I just thank South Africa for being there for me and for supporting me, and just for, you know, everything that inspires me.”
She went on to speak proudly about her country.
“South Africa runs through my veins. It shows in the way I speak and the way I dance, and I want to thank Bacardi also, Pretoria, because the moment I did Bacardi on that stage to ‘Water’, it changed my whole life, and I just love my country so much.”
