Your latest online shopping order could take a bit longer to reach your doorstep.

The tension currently escalating in the Middle East is starting to hit global supply chains, and it’s affecting everyone from e-commerce giants to the person waiting for a parcel.

According to The Citizen, major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Shein and Temu are all warning of potential delays.

It doesn't matter where you are in the world; the ripple effects are being felt everywhere.

The main issue lies with the Strait of Hormuz.

This stretch of water, which is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and goods, has been closed off due to military activity and attacks linked to the Gulf States.

Because of this, shipping routes are being disrupted, geopolitical risks are through the roof, and the cost of doing business has spiked.

This also means higher freight charges, more expensive insurance premiums, and much longer transit times.

Unfortunately, some of these extra costs are being passed down to consumers.

Speaking to The Citizen on Tuesday, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed that the company is taking steps to stay ahead of the chaos.

"We are adjusting operations in response to the evolving situation, including temporary pauses where necessary," the spokesperson said.

"The safety of our employees and partners remains our top priority, and we are working closely with local teams and local authorities to ensure they are supported."

AFP reported that Temu and Shein have both warned customers that deliveries could be pushed back by several days.
