Vasna Autar recalled the story in a TikTok video.
A Sandton-based banker is finally back at work after a terrifying incident over the 2026 Easter weekend.
Vasna Autar, 40, who is originally from the South Coast, suffered a corneal injury after a late-night mistake in her bedroom left her eye temporarily sealed shut.
According to Autar, the incident happened at around 23:00 while her husband and 10-month-old baby were sleeping.

Trying not to wake her family, she decided not to turn on the lights to apply her eye gel, which she had purchased as she suffers from “very bad dry eyes”.
“I decided to put some eye gel into my eye at 23:00. When I reached over, instead of picking up the eye gel, I picked up superglue. The eye gel is in a tube similar to superglue. It was dark because I did not want to put the light on and disturb my baby and my husband,” Autar explained.
“It was thick at first and I was confused, so I started putting more in. It was stinging and I never thought anything of it. After a few seconds, I realised this was not normal because my eye was now stuck together.”
Once the lights were on and the panic set in, she woke her husband and they headed to the emergency room.
“We went to the Sandton Mediclinic at 23:20. Since it was Good Friday, there was only one doctor on call,” she said.
Before attempting to open the eye, the on-call doctor consulted an expert.
Without any numbing medication initially available, the doctor had to pluck and cut away her eyelashes to remove the glue.
It was the most horrible feeling I have ever felt. It was excruciatingly painful. Then he decided to start shaving it with a blade. It felt like he was cutting into my eyelid. I was in so much pain I could not even breathe.- Vasna Autar
It took about 20 minutes of intense work before her eye was finally opened and numbing drops could be used.
“The next morning, I was able to get to the pharmacy and get the medication, but it was not working. I got hold of my ophthalmologist and he changed my meds.”
