Woman's pronunciation of 888 in Afrikaans has SA in stitches

South Africa is a melting pot of many different cultures and languages, which often means people grow up being able to speak multiple languages and draw references from different cultures.
One TikToker’s pursuit to prove to her fellow South Africans that she can, in fact, speak Afrikaans has resulted in some hilarious content online.
The TikToker, known as xaviismkhosi official on the video-sharing app, is known for making content in Afrikaans, but it was a question to the coloured community that really got things going.
In one of her TikTok videos, the content creator asked the Afrikaans-speaking coloured community a pertinent question: why is everything in the language “ag”?
“Why is everything dag, dag, dag?”
Her examples included the days of the week in Afrikaans: “Maandag, Dinsdag, Woensdag,” and so on.

The video prompted a comment from another user asking the content creator what “888 in Afrikaans is”.
The content creator took the comment as a challenge, and in a follow-up video, she set out to prove that she could pronounce “888”.
“I hate when people undermine me,” she started off.
“My grandma is a coloured woman, but you think I cannot call these numbers. I cannot pronounce or say these numbers in Afrikaans.”
She went on to try to pronounce the number, and let’s just say she wasn’t too successful, but South Africa was left with a hilarious video.
