Now, 10 years later, 'Stranger Things' has come to an end, and The Chainsmokers and Snapchat craze has died down significantly.

Some things haven't changed too much.

Donald Trump is once again the President of the United States, the 'Harry Potter' universe is still expanding, and every other movie or series is still a reboot of an older one.

What not many people might have expected to happen at the start of 2026 is that 2016 would start trending.

Across TikTok, Instagram and anywhere with a timeline, people are resurrecting 2016 through old photos, videos, music and vibes.

Some are posting actual throwbacks. Others are recreating the look and feel through grainy visuals, low-effort energy, and captions that scream “life was better.”

No 4K. No cinematic lighting. Just nostalgia and questionable fashion choices.

Why 2016? Well, obviously, it was a decade ago. 

2016 is also the year the internet has unofficially crowned “the last good year.”

Back then, social media was fun, not a full-time job, and everyone posted without thinking about engagement.

For many people, 2016 represents peak freedom before burnout, bills and the word “algorithm” ruined everything.

Rob Forbes and Rozanne McKenzie wanted to join in on the fun "2016 in 2026" trend while also reflecting on how different their lives were 10 years ago and how they've changed.
