South Africans will soon be able to get behind the wheel of some of America's most iconic vehicles.

Over the past 20 years, the country has waved goodbye to big American names like Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Chrysler.

According to TopAuto, only Ford and Jeep are currently available in the South African market.

Ford is riding high on the success of the ever-popular Ranger bakkie, while Jeep caters to the off-road crowd with rugged models like the Wrangler.

Now, there's good news for American vehicle fans in South Africa.

A Durban-based company, Rospa International, has announced a brand-new partnership that will see a whole lineup of American vehicles coming to SA, though not through official dealerships.

Rospa, known for importing some of Japan's most in-demand sports cars, is teaming up with Autogroup International (AGI) to import and convert American models specifically for the local market.

"We are pleased to make public this exciting new chapter in the Rospa story," said Rospa International founder and director, Himal Chris Paul.

"Joining forces with Autogroup International will open up a wider market for us. It will enable us to make the dreams of a whole new group of car enthusiasts come true."

These imports will be converted to right-hand drive, making them road-ready for SA.

"AGI firmly believes in right-hand-drive markets and the opportunities they present. Since the early '90s, we have carefully reengineered over five thousand LHD vehicles for export all over the world," added AGI CEO, Rob Hill.

"We can now add South Africa to that list through Rospa International, a company that shares our vision and passion."

Among the models hinted to come is the all-electric Hummer EV, as well as bakkie favourites like the Toyota Tundra and GMC Sierra.

Performance fans can also expect to see names like the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chevrolet Camaro roaring into SA.

"These will all be available in SA soon," Rospa confirmed.
