Chad le Clos loses home in fatal fire
The athlete also paid tribute to his “neighbour of many years” who died in the fire.
Chad Le Clos, one of South Africa’s top athletes, has had much to celebrate over the course of his career.
Most recently, the swimmer picked up three medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games: silver in the mixed 4x100 medley, bronze in the men's 4x100 freestyle relay, and bronze in the men's 4x100m medley relay.
He now has a total of 21 medals, overtaking Australia's Emma McKeon as the athlete with the most medals in Commonwealth Games history.
However, celebrations were overshadowed by the devastating news from back home, where a building fire had claimed the life of one of Le Clos’ neighbours and destroyed his home of over a decade.
Le Clos shared the news in an Instagram post and offered his condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

According to News 24, a 93-year-old died in the incident.
Le Clos has also launched a fundraising campaign to help his neighbours who have also been affected by the fire.
