December travel: What are the best choices?

With the festive season around the corner, it is time for people to start planning how they will be travelling locally. Journalist Christelle du Toit breaks down the travel situation in South Africa.
The December holidays are just around the corner and South Africans are busy planning their trips, but there are many factors to consider when choosing your transport.

One major factor to consider when choosing travel options is the relatively high accident rates on local roads during the festive season, and with the current cost of fuel, flying might be a better option.
Currently, aviation remains the single safest transport option in South Africa, with Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula noting that "South Africa still boasts a zero fatal accident rate, a record upheld for more than 30 years".

For some, the price of plane tickets remains quite high over the current festive period, but things will look better next year as carriers will be increasing the number of seats available.
