When ‘Game of Thrones’ (GOT) first appeared on our TV screens, there was excitement, intrigue and a little bit of controversy.

Now, there’s no denying that it is one of the most successful and highly rated series of all time.

Even though fans are still divided over the ending years later.

Many GOT fans were delighted when it was announced that a prequel series, ‘House of the Dragon’, would help them get over the loss of their favourite series coming to an end.

It’s been over a year since there were any new GOT developments, but fear not.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ universe is continuing to expand with another new series.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is another prequel series and follows the lives of the commoners rather than the various regal households.

As with the original main series, these are also based on stories by George R.R. Martin, published between 1998 and 2010.

The novellas, called 'Tales of Dunk and Egg', follow characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. 

Here is everything you need to know about the latest addition to GOT.

The Story

The story takes place nearly 100 years before the 'Game of Thrones' timeline and starts with Dunk travelling to the town of Ashford to participate in a tourney as a newly-knighted knight

If you have not watched 'House of the Dragon', it's important to note that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ takes place between the two already established series, making it both a sequel and a prequel.

This also means that this series will, unfortunately, not feature any dragons.

The cast and crew

The cast is mainly made up of up-and-coming actors, including the two main characters:

  • Peter Claffey ('Vikings: Valhalla') as Dunk
  • Dexter Sol Ansell ('The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' as Egg.
  • Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon
  • Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen
  • Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree
  • Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen
  • Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway
  • Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen
  • Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway
  • Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle
  • Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen
  • Youssef Kerkour as Steeley Pate
  • Tom Vaughn-Lawlor as Plummer
  • Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion

The new prequel was created by Martin, alongside showrunner Ira Parker, who was also a producer on 'House of the Dragon'.

Release date and more

If you are only just finding out about this new series, there's more good news. 

You don't have to wait for the release!

The first episode premiered on 18 January, and the first season will have only six episodes.

The series is available to watch on Hulu, Prime Video and HBO Max.
