Internet calls new Tina Turner statue an "abomination"
The statue was meant to be a tribute to the rock legend in her hometown, but people say it's an insult.

One of the world's greatest singers and performers, Tina Turner, passed away at the age of 83.
"Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock 'n Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model," a spokesperson for Tina Turner said.

After it was announced that she had died, tributes from all over the world, from fans, fellow musicians, and friends, poured in.

Often, those who have passed are honoured through a statue.
Turner's small hometown, Brownsville, in rural Tennessee, recently chose to erect a statue of her to celebrate its most significant export.

On Saturday, 27 September 2025, they unveiled the 3m tall statue, which depicted Tina Turner in one of her iconic poses, complete with big hair, a short skirt, and a microphone in hand.
According to Associated Press, 50 donors contributed to funding for the statue.

While the unveiling should have been a joyous occasion, social media users could not believe their eyes when they saw how Turner's "likeness" had been captured.
Most who have seen the statue, whether on social media or in person, have taken issue with it.

It's been on the receiving end of some intense criticism, anger and mockery.
