The extravagant menswear retailer Al Capone Group had humble beginnings in 2014 at Newtown Junction, Johannesburg.

Al Capone stores feature a curated selection of imported brands from well-known global fashion houses, common in European markets and rarer in SA.

The brand has established itself as delivering a unique luxury experience, describing itself as more than a retail store; they understand the nuances of men's fashion.

Now the group have moved to a new high-end concept.

The store, called Maison Deux (French for 'house of two'), opened its doors in early 2026 and is located at Hyde Park Corner in Johannesburg.

But what makes this store so affulent and opulent?

The Alcapone Group are trying to bring the "spirit and energy of New York City to South Africa", and has also added a subtle Parisian influence by incorporating a cafe unlike any other.

The store aims to blend fashion, design, and hospitality through its offerings of global clothing brands such as Missoni, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, and Stella McCartney, as well as the designer cafe Marc's by Marc Jacobs.

The home and lifestyle section also includes fancier options such as Etro Home, Versace, Missoni Home, OW London, Dolce & Gabbana Casa, and Stories Of Italy.

The Marc Jacobs Café is at the centre of the store and blends into the retail environment 

The Marc Jacobs Café merges a design-focused interior with a curated menu to encourage visitors to spend more time in the space rather than just walking through the store.

This retail concept is still uncommon in South Africa and is inspired by European department stores such as Harrods.

Hyde Park Corner operating hours

Monday to Saturday: 9am to 6pm
Sundays and public holidays: 10am to 3pm
