‘The Mummy 4’ release date confirmed

‘The Mummy’ franchise is coming back, bigger and better than ever before.

The blockbuster trilogy was one of Universal Pictures’ most successful box-office releases, grossing $1.8 billion (approximately R30bn) worldwide.
Academy Award-winning actor Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz starred alongside South African legend Arnold Vosloo in this exhilarating action movie that quickly became a '90s classic.

The first in the series, ‘The Mummy’, was released in 1999 and follows adventurer and treasure hunter Rick O'Connell (Fraser) and librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz) as they travel to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep (Vosloo), a cursed high priest with supernatural powers.The lead actors returned for the equally successful sequel 'The Mummy Returns' in 2001, but Weisz and Vosloo did not star in the third instalment 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor'.

Although the reboot had a star-studded cast, it was not as commercially successful or critically acclaimed as the first two films in the series.
So there is definitely no pressure for everyone working on the fourth film...

There have been no reports of the plot details, but it has been confirmed that Fraser, who is also an executive producer for the film, and Weisz will reprise their iconic roles.

Producer Sean Daniel, who was involved in every movie in the franchise, will also be part of the new film's team, alongside Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (known for the 'Scream' franchise) as directors.

The official theatrical release date has also been confirmed for 19 May 2028
