His book focuses on improving memory as you age, as it tends to be one of the first things that deteriorates with age.
Dr Restak addresses the shocking impact alcohol can have on the brain and memory, as well as revealing that drinking alcohol can do more harm than good as we age, damaging our neurons.
Alcohol is a very, very weak neurotoxin – it’s not good for nerve cells. It is essential to abstain from alcohol at a stage in life where preserving neurons is crucial.- Dr Richard Restak
Research says that from the age of 65, your body has fewer neurons than when you were younger, but recent studies have been challenging this, saying it seems as though humans only lose 2% to 4% of neurons across a lifetime.

In an ideal world, people should cut down on alcohol from the age of 65, aiming for abstinence from 70, according to Dr Reestak.
Taking a month off from alcohol can help your body in the following ways.
1. Repair liver damage
2. Decrease the risk of heart disease
3. Reduce the risk of cancer
4. Facilitate weight loss
5. Boost brain power
6. Improve sleep
