'Nothing is impossible for Serena' - Serena Williams' former coach
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
If there is one athlete that can do the impossible, it is Serena Williams.
Serena Williams confirmed her return to tennis after an absence of nearly four years on Monday, with the American great set to play women's doubles at Queen's Club later this month.
The 44-year-old, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, has not played since a third-round loss at the 2022 US Open.
The former world number one posted the message, "Good news travels fast", along with a video of her on court in an all-white Nike tennis dress and with her phone buzzing rapidly in the background.
Her imminent return has been touted since it was revealed in December she had re-entered the anti-doping programme - a prerequisite to play on the tour again.
But the American has been given a wild card for the women's doubles at Queen's in London, reportedly alongside young Canadian Victoria Mboko.
"Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," said Williams, who won the Wimbledon singles title seven times.
"Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm excited to be back competing on one of the sport's most iconic stages."
The women's event at Queen's starts on June 8.
Williams' former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, shared a video on social media about her return.
"She's not coming back to be average. That's not her. I feel like she wants to test herself. I think she wants to know where she stands.
"Does it make sense to go back on court after not competing for four years with two kids? No, it doesn't make sense. But that's Serena. Serena did things that were impossible because she thinks, "I can do it."
"I'm not saying she's going to be number one in the world, I'm saying, nothing is impossible for Serena."
