'Pheromone maxxing': The latest dating craze raising eyebrows

Social media is filled with all sorts of crazy trends and people following the latest craze that someone on the internet has come up with.
And just when you think it couldn’t get more bizarre, people on the internet have a way of showing you that, in fact, it can.
The latest dating craze making headlines across the world is known as ‘pheromone maxxing’.
Inspired by the already popular ‘looksmaxxing’ craze, ‘pheromone maxxing’ is a TikTok trend where men ditch regular showers, deodorant and washing their hair to let their natural odour linger.
This is all in pursuit of attracting a partner with one’s natural scent.
“Stopped washing my hair at all and now I unironically get more compliments on how it smells and looks (from women),” one user posted.
“Pheromone maxxing is key.”

According to USA Today, there is evidence that scent plays a role in attraction, but psychologists and dermatologists warn that there isn’t any proof that not showering will make you smell more attractive.
“Pheromone-maxxing takes a kernel of legitimate science, the fact that humans produce individual chemical odors and that smell can influence how we perceive other people, and stretches it into a conclusion the science doesn’t support,” says Dr Shereen Teymour, a board-certified dermatologist in New York.
Although the craze has had internet users up in arms, it seems that it isn’t really as widespread or common as people assume, and we hope it stays that way.
