Six new car brands coming to South Africa in 2026

The influx of Chinese car brands into South Africa doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.

According to the TransUnion Vehicle Price Index for Q4 2024, "the South African automotive sector experienced a cautious recovery, influenced by improved macroeconomic factors.

"The report highlighted that interest rate cuts, lower inflation, and a stronger rand contributed to increased consumer confidence and enhanced vehicle affordability."

Despite positive developments, rising costs and shifting financing trends continued to shape the market, and affordability has become a primary concern.

Enter the Chinese brands.

An analysis by BusinessTech found that Asian vehicles, such as Chery and Suzuki, have seen massive growth over the last decade.

Suzuki and Chery collectively sold 7,699 units in 2014, which increased to 76,020 (a whopping 887%) in 2024.

As of May 2025, 41 Chinese passenger cars, mostly SUVs, are available in South Africa.

There are, however, a few bakkies.

For the new year, even more Chinese car brands are making their way to SA.

Here are the six brands that will be available as of 2026.

Denza

The luxury division for the electric carmaker BYD, a brand that has rapidly grown in popularity in SA.

BYD first launched in the SA market with one product, the Atto 3 crossover and has since expanded significantly.

Denza is BYD's version of Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, and is expected to launch in early 2026.

Its first model will be the B5, an Adventure SUV that shares a platform with the BYD Shark, uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors.

There are no prices available yet for this model, but it is expected to compete with other high-end 4x4s like the Ford Everest, Land Rover Defender, and Toyota Prado.

iCaur

Part of the Chery Group, iCaur specialises in retro-themed electric 4x4s for younger buyers.

Their models include the 03 and the V23, which will initially be offered with a battery electric vehicle (BEV) drivetrain and, at a later date, the option for a range-extender electric vehicle (REEV).

Lepas

The second new brand from the Chery Group and the upmarket alternative to Chery’s Tiggo family of SUVs.

Lepas will offer three models: the L4, L6 and L8.

The other three brands all fall under the Geely family.

The manufacturer made its debut in November 2025 with two SUVs, the electric E5 and the plug-in hybrid E5 EM-i.

Now, they're already expanding with the introduction of three more car brands.

Farizon

This commercial brand produces electric vans and trucks, but they have not yet shared what we can expect from them.

Riddara

Riddara is making a truly South African entrance by bringing a new electric bakkie to the market.

The RD6 is available with either a single, rear-mounted electric motor or a four-wheel-drive configuration with a motor on each axle.

Enviro Automotive will be the local distributor, but Riddara have not confirmed the RD6's official release date.

Zeekr

The luxury sub-brand produces electric and plug-in hybrid models, such as the X crossover and the 001 estate.

Although Geely have also not revealed what vehicles to expect from Zeekr.
