Spotify announces controversial new product
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
We’re still a few weeks away from April Fool's, so it appears the streaming giant isn’t joking.
Apparently, artificial intelligence, space travel and robotics aren’t the only major (and slightly scary) technological innovations this year.

Since its launch, Spotify has excelled at growth and has been a frontrunner in the streaming world.
Everyone is obsessed with Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year; the platform has incorporated AI and is constantly rolling out new features.

Their next announcement is unlike anything anyone has ever seen, in pretty much any industry, not just the music or streaming world.
This might seem like a fever dream, a nightmare, a bad joke, a late-night brainstorming session gone wrong, or a genius move.

Introducing the Spotify x Liquid Death Urn.
Yes, you read that right.
Spotify has collaborated with the canned water company Liquid Death to create a product no one knew they needed.

According to their press release: "Life needs music. So does the afterlife. That’s why Spotify has partnered with Liquid Death to create the Eternal Playlist Urn, the world’s first wireless speaker designed to bring your music somewhere it’s never been before."
The Eternal Playlist Urn will only be available in the United States for limited quantities.

Dubbed a "collector's item", this is supposedly for anyone who wants to take their love of music with them when they pass away.
The urn has "a discreet Bluetooth speaker built into the lid", and you connect any compatible device in order to enjoy your playlist "for all eternity".

Spotify has also launched the Eternal Playlist Generator (available only to Spotify US users) that will put together the ultimate afterlife playlist.
How it works:
- Head to the Eternal Playlist Generator.
- Answer a few questions, like “What’s your eternal vibe?” or “What’s your go-to ghost noise?”
- Based on your answers and your Spotify listening history, you’ll get a personalized mix fit for a lifetime…and beyond.
If this is what we're starting 2026 with, who knows where we could end up by the end of the year.
