'Three Week Blackout' the worst-case scenario, says Eskom

With the recent spate of loadshedding, many South Africans have been left wondering if things can get any worse… and the answer is yes.

Loadshedding dropped from Stage 6 over the weekend to Stage 5 for the week, but Eskom is still struggling to maintain stability in the grid.

Whilst Stage 6 loadshedding was a major problem for South Africans, the later stages like Stage 7 and 8 could mean no electricity for 12 hours a day.

Eskom has previously stated that the purpose of loadshedding is to help maintain the stability of the gird and prevent a total blackout.

Eskom has said that there would be no way of preparing for a grid collapse, and the resulting blackout could last weeks in conservative estimates.
