According to the most recent records from South African statistics, there were 20,196 confirmed divorces in 2022, compared to 18,208 in 2021.
That puts the divorce rate at 33 divorces per 100,000 estimated resident population.
While many couples would hope to split up amicably, especially if children are involved, that is not always the case.

Things can become very messy, complicated, and nasty.
James Sexton is America’s top divorce lawyer and author of the bestselling marriage and relationship advice book, 'How to Stay in Love: Practical Wisdom from an Unexpected Source'.

From celebrities to actual CEOs, together with his guests, they delve into untold truths, unlearned lessons, and critical insights, hoping to share content that will help make the audience more successful and more fulfilled.

During his two-hour interview with Sexton, they discussed various topics, including how intimacy relates to divorce, whether a happy wife equals a happy life, and how to approach prenuptial agreements.
However, one part of the interview saw Sexton becoming incredibly emotional.
Barlett asked Sexton if there was any specific case that broke the lawyer's heart.

Sexton then told the heartbreaking story and said: "It was a case that I won, that I should have lost."

This case has clearly stuck with Sexton, even though it is a win he would rather forget.
"I remember thinking, this is not a good day," said Sexton.

He also acknowledges that he was doing his job and representing his client, but he also represents the system.
