Dricus du Plessis made history in 2024 when he became the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion and the first-ever South African to win a UFC championship.

The Pretoria local earned the UFC middleweight title after a split-decision win against Sean Strickland at UFC 297.
Unfortunately, in August 2025, Du Plessis's incredible run of winning fights came to an end against Khamzat Chimaev.

Dricus du Plessis lost his middleweight title, and the mixed martial arts champ reflected on the devastating loss in an Instagram post.
At the start of 2025, Du Plessis defended his UFC middleweight belt with a unanimous win over bitter rival Sean Strickland, destroying his opponent's nose in a bloody title fight in Sydney.

The fighter was not just all business in Sydney, Australia, however – he's also had some fun.
On his previous "work" visit to Aus, he met up with some local content creators called the Reese Bros to make a fun video.

On Monday, 17 November, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and South African UFC champion shared the exciting news of the EFC Knox Legacy Series 2026 that is coming to Cape Town.
The Knox Legacy Series, a first-of-its-kind major EFC event hosted by Stillknocks and the Mother City, will take place on 26 February 2026.
