What is HYROX? Rozanne McKenzie shares her experience
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Never heard of HYROX before? Well, fitness queen Rozanne McKenzie took on the challenge on Saturday, 30 May, in Johannesburg, and she's sharing exactly what the experience was like.
HYROX is a global fitness race that combines endurance running with functional workout stations. Competitors complete eight 1km runs, each followed by a different fitness challenge, including sled pushes, rowing, burpee broad jumps, farmers carries, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.
It has quickly become one of the fastest-growing fitness competitions in the world.
The Johannesburg event took place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre as part of the Virgin Active HYROX Johannesburg competition, which attracted thousands of athletes from across South Africa and beyond.
According to participants, the race is both physically and mentally demanding, with many saying the combination of running and functional exercises is what makes HYROX so challenging.
For Roz, the event offered an opportunity to test her fitness once again, push her limits, and experience one of the world's most talked-about fitness trends firsthand.
"It was great! I had an awesome time. We pushed hard. Happy with our time, I wouldn't do anything differently.”
"It was that kind of suffering you enjoy. It was my second one, and it was really great."
