The Winter Olympics might not get as much love as the summer Games, but it is just as exciting!

The athletes competing in the Winter Olympics have worked their whole lives to represent their country at the world's biggest competition.

The figure skaters are looking for tens across the board, skier jumpers want to go higher, and bobsledders want to go faster.

This raises the question: why don't we see more records set or broken at the Winter Olympics?

Especially compared to the Summer Olympics?

According to BBC Sport journalist Tasnim Chowdhury, there are a few reasons; however, there are very few events at the Games that are not affected by them.

Short track and long track speed skating have official Olympic and world records, with Norway's Sander Eitrem breaking the Olympic record in the men's 5,000m at the 2026 Games.

Many sports, such as figure skating, in which winners are determined by judges' scores, focus on skill and execution.

Since the 2018 Games, the International Skating Union (ISU) judging system has been used to determine Olympic records, with Nathan Chen (USA) holding the current men's single records in the short, free, and combined events.
