Twitter paid verification on the rocks after problems emerge

Musk’s new initiative has been facing challenges from many directions.
When Elon Musk announced that he would be changing the verification system on Twitter, many users were skeptical.

The update would make anyone who paid $8 a month a verified user with the checkmark.
Users quickly found a way around this measure and abused the system by creating parody accounts of notable individuals, including Musk himself.
The update also made it impossible to change an account’s name, which also backfired.

As the situation unfolded, Musk decided that it would be prudent to suspend the system until such impersonations stopped.
