The world’s number one holiday destination

Botswana came first on Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel 2016 list.
Cracking top spot on any Lonely Planet list is no easy feat, but Botswana, who’ll be celebrating 50 years of independence in 2016, have managed to do just that.
Described as “democratic, progressive, enlightened – but above all, invigoratingly wild” Botswana is the site's number one place to visit in 2016, and after seeing some of these amazing pictures, it’s easy to see why.
“The story of Botswana’s journey from poverty to become one of Africa’s most stable, thriving societies is inspirational; the country celebrates 50 years of independence in 2016 and there’s a lot for it to shout about, not least the way it has balanced economic growth with protecting its natural riches. Prepare for a severe case of slack-jawed-with-awe syndrome when you visit,” the site writes.
Japan, USA, Palau, and Latvia round up the top five.
