Like many women, Celeste Schurmann did not expect to one day have to go for a double mastectomy. But that is the decision she made in 2003, after she discovered a lump in her breast.

After her breasts were removed, Celeste opted for reconstructive surgery, in which skin from he back was used to assist with blood flow to the breast area. Celeste believes women who have to have mastectomies should opt for reconstructive surgery as soon as they can.
