Make My Monday: Shimone's birthday fundraiser for The Ocean Cleanup
Shimone Smit received a birthday dinner surprise from John Dory's, an online course from the Two Oceans Aquarium, and help to raise money for a fundraiser to clean up the ocean.
The Scenic Drive team received a Make My Monday request from Shimone Smit.
Here's her message:
"Hi Rian, I would love to go out for supper for my 21st birthday at John Dory's - as myself and my family haven't been out for supper in about four years, my grandmother looks after myself as well as my brother and this would be an amazing treat for her. This will really make my Monday as well as my birthday on the 21st of September."
John Dory's surprised her with a birthday dinner for her 21st birthday.

Smit also started a fundraising project for her birthday that will help clean up the ocean.
"For my birthday this year, I am asking for donations for The Ocean Cleanup. I chose this non-profit organization because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you will consider making a contribution as a way to celebrate with me. Every little bit will help me reach my goal. I have included information on sea clearance below."
The Ocean Cleanup designs and develops advanced technologies to rid the world's oceans of plastic by means of ocean cleanup systems and river interception solutions.

Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town has an online course starting next week. The course costs R1,000 - but they will sign her up for free. It’s called 'Rocky Shore Biology' and features fascinating sessions about the animals and plants that live in these areas of the ocean.
Because she is so passionate about the ocean, the CEO of Two Oceans Aquarium, marine biologist Maryke Musson, said that the next time she is in Cape Town, she will arrange a special VIP tour of the aquarium, taking her behind the scenes, giving her personal encounters with the creatures, and demonstrations of the work they do to protect our seas.
