“Caleb and his brothers, Joshua (22) and Alexander (19), were body-surfing on Saturday when they spotted the shark. Swimming for the shore, Joshua and Alexander suddenly saw that Caleb was no longer with them. They then saw blood in the water and heard Caleb call for help.”

On Saturday 27 June, Caleb Swanepoel, a 20-year old UCT student survived a shark attack at Buffel's Bay in which his right leg was severed above the knee. Yet, he remains incredibly positive after the traumatic ordeal.

He was discharged from the George Mediclinic 7 July with doctors calling his survival ‘a miracle’ due to the fact that his main artery clotted after the shark released its grip on Caleb's leg, causing the artery to go into spasm, which minimised the bleeding.

Now at home in Price Albert, The Complimentary Breakfast speaks to the brave young man about the surrealistic attack and the road to recovery after having survived the traumatic ordeal.
