All French citizens are now automatic organ donors
Updated | By Boledi Makofane
France has made changes to its law making every citizen an organ donor unless they decide to opt out.
A new law that went into effect on the 1st of January makes everyone an organ and tissue donor. Citizens are allowed to opt out of the program but will have to enroll on the National Rejection Register.
If it is not possible for a person to register on the National Rejection Register, they can also sign and date a written refusal and leave it with a relative, or make an oral testimony to a relative who will then have to authenticate this wish to a medical team.
In South Africa, people who would like to become organ donors can do so in two easy steps:
Phone the Organ Donor Info Line on 0800 22 66 11 and you'll be helped.
Talk to your family. Inform them of your intent to become an organ donor.
