Bosses: give credit where it's due, or it'll cost you!
Updated | By Lebogang Oagile
In an ideal world, acknowledging the deeds and work of others should make for such great contentment, but not everything is as it should be and not everyone will always give credit where it is due - let's hope the Nkosana Makate vs Vodacom 'David vs Goliath' battle will change that!
Certain people with power over others are often guilty of failing to give credit or at the very least some recognition for any good deed, effort or work of plausible merit by their subordinates, but are always happy to bask in the glory that such deeds.
Whether on a narcissistic voyage posting countless ‘selfies’ on social media in search of likes from peers, or a bona fide philanthropist working tirelessly for the well being of humanity, it can't be ignored that recognition and acknowledgement is a key and important feature of human beings’ psyche.
VODACOM MUST PAY 'PLEASE CALL ME' INVENTOR
While it is noble and should be encouraged that people act out of pure intent and not for validation or approval, there are certain situations where a little pat on the back would not be so much of a bad idea, whether from a husband delighted by the impeccable cooking of his wife’ or a busy business executive commending the outstanding work of their personal assistant.
So maybe the high court’s call to have Vodacom compensate ‘please call me inventor’ Nkosana Makate should send a strong reminder that giving credit where it is due, whether in currency or otherwise is not always such a bad thing.
