This video popped up on our timeline on Monday and we just had to share it. You never know, it could save a life.

With the rise in hijackings in South Africa, it's important to assist our road users with information to keep them alert.

Most hijackings take place in residential driveways with easily accessible escape routes.

The video, viewed more than 200,000 times already, has had positive feedback from people who have watched it, with many thanking the department for it.

Earlier this year, statistics provided by C-Track, in partnership with Arrive Alive, revealed the most dangerous hijacking hotspots in South Africa.

The company also identified the most-targeted cars, SUVs, and trucks, as well as the most common time for hijackings to occur in each province.

The study showed that SA’s most-targeted vehicles include the VW Polo, Toyota Fortuner SUV, and Toyota Hilux bakkie.

Gauteng experiences 64% of all hijackings in the country, followed by KZN with 15%. The Western Cape experiences only 7% of all hijackings in SA.

Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters narrowly escaped a hijacking two weeks ago

According to a statement released by the Official Miss South Africa Facebook page, Demi-Leigh was approached by three men on Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

She managed to exit the vehicle and a good Samaritan came to Demi's aid and drove her away from the scene.

Following the incident, Fikile Mbalula, the Minister of Police, released a statement, saying he views all crimes against women as an "added priority" and reiterated that "we have no time to waste."
