Travel content creator shares what she did not expect from SA
Eek, this sounds quite small-minded, but at least she was honest...
We have to admit that when it comes to our country, we are surprised by things daily. Whether that falls under the category of bizarre practices that leave us laughing out loud (like car guards carrying card machines) or funny things our people do that we can only expect in South Africa.
While these things might be surprising to us, many tourists visit South Africa with their personalised ideas of what they might expect, without doing any research about our beloved home.
In fact, the idea of having a car guard has left many confused. But over and above that, despite us living in 2024, there are still people who come here and expect to see a lack of civilization.
A travel content creator, Holly Harris, shares how her visit to South Africa differed from what she expected.
She admits that she has only been to Cape Town and the Garden Route, but she did not expect so much greenery or, as she said, "vegetative". It also surprised her to see how modern we were as a country and that there wasn't just deserts.
Even though she may have come across as offensive, if we are to practice freedom of speech, we have to allow her that freedom. The truth is she was surprised by the beauty of our country, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. However, she said that her comments did not sit well with Mzansi.
