Disgruntled Cape Town guest 'advertises' restaurant's bad service on public banner

An unidentified guest at the Taj in Cape Town bought a banner to advertise the "incompetent management" they experienced at the high-end hotel.

When you pay thousands to spend a few nights at a luxury hotel, it's only natural to expect service and facilities of the highest quality. Those who have been fortunate enough to stay at Cape Town's Taj hotel have marvelled at the beauty of the establishment and have mentioned the extraordinary feeling that comes with staying in one of its best rooms in one of the world's most famous cities.

It is no wonder, then, that an experience that is anything less than spectacular would immediately raise red flags.

An unidentified guest who reportedly stayed at the hotel this week was so deeply dissatisfied with the customer service that they created a banner advertising the fact.

The banner, which appeared on Wale street opposite the hotel on Tuesday morning, read: "Do not stay at Taj Cape Town!" in large letters, before listing the guest's grievances. Among them was "incompetent management" and "valuables go missing".

According to Business Insider, Taj Cape Town managers "know who the unhappy guest is, but they are not engaging with the person at present". The complaint has reportedly been escalated to the hotel's group head office in India.
The banner has been removed.

This is not the first time that a disgruntled consumer has taken to creating public banners to express dissatisfaction. Four years ago, a Cell C customer called the company "the most useless service provider in SA". The billboard, which was unlawful, cost R61,000.

At a time where online forums such as Hello Peter and Trip Advisor are freely available to everyone, how far would you go to let everyone know that you were not happy with the service you received at a hotel?
