Releasing butterflies at wedding: Romantic and dreamy or cruel?

Releasing butterflies at wedding: Romantic and dreamy or cruel?

Happily ever dead is what it turned out to be...

We are all for romantic gestures that leave people feeling high on dopamine, but they say that life is best lived in balance.

And when you think about a wedding being airy and fairylike, ticking all the boxes of romance, décor, great food, and transporting you into a fairytale, many would agree that some couples go overboard.

In a sense you could say they get high on wedding fever...

It's all about being the first to do something, setting a trend, or being one-of-a-kind.

It comes as no surprise to us then when we hear that bridal couples are releasing butterflies into the sky after their 'I do's'...

Like, seriously, that's a thing...

It undeniably exists and we are completely shocked.

We can relate to wanting your day to be special, but why succumb to taking the life of a butterfly to making it special?

That is not just unnecessary, but cruel!

A photographer shared a story on Reddit about a wedding he worked on. He was hired to photograph a butterfly-themed wedding.

But he was shocked to find out that he was actually going to be capturing the moment live butterflies were being released from boxes when the couple left the church.

Check out the photographer's story below. Courtesy of MSN.

"I was made aware that there would be a ‘butterfly release’ when the couple would leave the church. In my head, there would be a big cage/aquarium full of butterflies and they would open it.

“But no. Butterflies were kept in a cake box. The mother of the bride opened the cake box and smaller, butterfly-shaped boxes were inside. The boxes were tiny, so it was clear the butterflies were trapped with no possibility of movement. How cruel.”

How could they even think that was going to be appropriate for these beautifully winged creatures.

Guess their airy, fairy dreamy set up with the butterfly release turned out to be dud...

Serves them right for putting any sort of living creature in a box...

Just as Patrick Swayze said in 'Dirty Dancing', no one puts Baby in the corner, to which we say, no one puts butterflies in boxes...
