5 after-school snack ideas for the kids today
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
Make something fun and tasty for the kids as you welcome them back from their first school day.
The first day of back to school is well on its way, and you can give yourself a big pat on the back for getting the kids to school on time (if you were late, it's okay – you can do better tomorrow).
It was a first for some parents who took their little ones to Grade R this year. To those who did it without shedding a tear or getting emotional, we raise a glass (of milk) in honour of you.
If you need a pick-me-up and think the kids could use one, too, we have five easy after-school snack ideas that won't take long to prepare.

1. Chia seed pudding
Add chia seeds to milk and honey for sweetness, and place in the fridge to set. Add some freshly cut fruit on top just before serving.
2. Veggies sticks with hummus
Cut some vegetables like cucumber, carrots, bell peppers, and celery into sticks (julienne style), and serve with a bowl of hummus for dipping.
3. Cheese and crackers
Arrange a plate of cheese cubes, crackers, and grapes to create a cheese platter.

4. Apple and peanut butter slices
Spread peanut butter onto apple slices for a delicious textural snack.
5. Frozen banana and yoghurt bites
Cut a banana into slices and place it on a baking tray. Gently press each slice with a glass, top with some yoghurt, sprinkle with nuts for added crunch, and freeze.
