What ended up happening was this mom started a chain reaction for other moms to share what they do when their kids are mid-tantrum.
Here are some of the comments.
- "I always ask my kids mid tantrum, “do you smell that? What’s that smell?” And they just take a bunch of deep breaths. It works!"
- "When your kid has something they shouldn’t: “Oh, I was looking for that. Thank you!” hands it to me or lets me take it every time"
- "You are activating the logic side of their brain and reducing the emotional side"
- "When my toddler doesn’t wanna get dressed I take the pants and say “does this go on our head?” “No mama” and I just move down till we get to the legs"
- "For me it’s you put your 4 fingers up and say “blow out the candles!” And with each blow (aka deep breath) you put a finger down"
- "Mine was encouraging them to cry & let it all out. When they slow down say “are you sure you don’t have any more cries?” In the end, all smiles"
