An incident that had South Africans up in arms has been cleared up. It was not an attempted kidnapping, but there was a crime committed.
A video made the rounds on Facebook over the weekend with people coming up with different theories in order to make sense of it all.
Some alleged that the man was a father trying to kidnap his child after he put him in a trolley and covered him with a blanket. The other theory was that the man was a victim, and the other man was trying to steal his child.
However, according to the Daily Voice, the man had been shoplifting and used the child as his scapegoat. The Daily Voice spoke to police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, who explained the incident: “Kindly be advised that the person in the video clip was arrested for theft (and not kidnapping). He appeared at Goodwood Court on Monday, 20 August, on the mentioned charges.”
