WATCH: German Shepherd protects child, then does the unthinkable

Pet families are by far the families who experience the most endearing moments. 

It so happens that a home security camera captured a perfect moment where the family dog displayed his protective instinct.

German Shepherds are known for their instincts and ability to sense danger. That is why many of them go on to become police dogs. 

And this guy proved his skills...

In the video, it looks like he is just sitting in the garden watching the kids play ball. 

But as one of the kids throws the ball into the water feature, he immediately reacts by pulling the younger child away from danger. 

His ability to think of what may happen and therefore remove the child from harm's way, is astonishing. 

It's impossible to watch your children 24/7 and the truth is sometimes the most secure of homes can prove to be harmful. 

But this just shows that sometimes dogs can be the best caregivers...
