Don't play any of these songs at your wedding

These are the most popular choices for "worst wedding song ever", according to wedding DJs. Is your favourite song on the list?

Curating a wedding playlist is one of the most stressful parts of the planning process. You need to have enough fun songs to dance to without making the more reserved people in the crowd feel like they've wandered into a rave, then you need to make sure you cover enough genres and eras to please at least 95 per cent of guests.

And you also need to make sure you find a good DJ who knows how to keep the crowd happy. The person in charge of the music has a lot of responsibility resting on their shoulders.

And what's worse is people never forget a bad party: no one will talk about anything but the bad music at your otherwise beautiful wedding.

It should come as a relief, then, that FiveThirtyEight took it upon themselves to weed out all the songs you should definitely not play at your wedding. These are the songs that will immediately dampen the mood, keeping people glued to their seats instead of on the dancefloor.

  2. September - Earth, Wind & Fire
  3. It must have been love - Roxette
  4. Cha Cha Slide - DJ Casper
  5. Macarena - Los Del Rio
  6. Shout - The Isley Brothers
  7. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
  8. Happy - Pharrell

These songs have been played ad nauseum at every party and club you and all your guests have been to. So take this opportunity to shake things up. Choose music that is unexpected and exciting - take a few calculated risks with your playlists.

You still won't be able to find a playlist that leaves each of your guests feeling satisfied, but at least your party will be one that people will remember for all the right reasons.
