Lionesses bullied by hyenas over fresh kill
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
In a moment that showed the ruthless nature of animals in the wild, hyenas bullied a nearby pride of lions into giving up their food.
On a drive through the Kruger National Park, witnesses captured the moment 20 hyenas bullied two lionesses into giving up the carcass of a buffalo.
The lionesses were gathered around a buffalo carcass that a pride had been feasting on for two days when the mischievous hyenas approached.
The lions had been doing a good job of keeping the hyenas away, but at this point in the confrontation, both sides were getting antsy. The hyenas giggled and yelled at the lionesses, mocking them with charges.
One of the lionesses, fed up with the harassment, rose from the carcass and advanced on the hyenas, growling.
The lioness loses her will and leaves the site of the carcass, choosing instead to go back to find the rest of her pride. The hyenas had successfully bullied the lions into giving up the food they worked hard to catch.
