London pedestrians watch as snake devours pigeon
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
Passersby on a busy London street were temporarily stopped in their tracks as they took in the strange sight.
City dwellers going about their business in Leytonstone, east London were not prepared to meet a snake so far out of its habitat. Yet several passersby can now say that they saw a large snake eating a pigeon on the pavement.
It is not known where the snake came from, but it certainly caused a spectacle.
The snake was seen squeezing a dead pigeon down its throat. Reports from the Guardian state that it was one of the onlookers who had given the bird over to the slithering reptile.
Representatives from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) were called to the scene to remove the snake, which was identified as a boa constrictor.
A spokesperson from the RSPCA says it is yet to be determined whether the snake escaped from an enclosure or was carelessly dumped there by someone.
