Let’s face it, mornings suck, especially if you have had a long night. If many of us could extend the night, I’m sure we would. Sadly, we cannot control time. In a bid to combat your dislike for the morning, we look at ways in which you can stop pressing snooze on your alarm and face the day with a smile!

“Hitting the snooze button a couple times before getting up is a clear sign of sleep deprivation. If you are getting enough sleep, you should be able to wake up on time without a morning alarm,” Dr Nathaniel Watson, president-elect of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, told dailyburn.com.

So, the first tip is for you to make sure you sleep enough. Although the required amount of sleep is eight hours, according to sleepfoundation, some people prefer to sleep a bit longer to properly function the next day. So, give yourself enough time to sleep. Dr Watson adds: “Keeping a consistent sleep schedule is one of the best ways to ensure you’re getting quality, restful sleep.” So rather than staying up late to watch TV or being on social media until the wee hours of the morning, allow your body to get enough rest.

Get rid of anything that may disturb your sleep. Because it is so important to get enough sleep, make sure you remove anything that may disturb your sleep such as eating the wrong kinds of foods or drinking the wrong liquids that may cause you to visit the loo far too often. Your cellphone can also be a distraction. Log off from chat rooms to avoid getting texts throughout the night.

Plan for the next day. Going to bed knowing that you have prepared for the next day will give you peace of mind. For instance, if possible, prepare your lunchbox, iron your clothes, and make sure your bag is packed so you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything in the morning.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Kickstart your morning with a good nutritious breakfast or a good shake that will give you the vitamins you need to perform to the best of your ability.

Make sure you look your best. Looking good will boost your confidence, so make sure you put on nice clothes, and ensure your face and hair look good.

Lastly, digest positive thoughts for the day ahead. Instead of focusing on what may go wrong in the day and allowing your nerves to get the best of you, choose to have positive thoughts about what might go right. Positive thoughts attract positive energy.
