2013 has been a great year for Jacaranda FM and our fans. Thank you for supporting the campaigns and the events and making every one of them memorable.

1. Give Kili Horns

The Martin Bester Drive launched the ‘Let’s Give Kili Horns’ campaign in July 2013 to fight the scourge of rhino poaching after 450 rhino were killed by June 2013.

 

An ambitious idea to send Jacaranda’s stuntman, Arod up Kilimanjaro to raise money for Jacaranda FM’s Purple Rhino Project.

 

Corporate sponsors and empathetic listeners donated a total of R1.6 million

2. Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk 2013

The Discovery Jacaranda FM Spring Walk forms part of Discovery’s ‘Big-4’ walk strategy with a long distance walk taking place  in each of the 4 major South African Cities: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.

 

The Jacaranda FM Spring Walk represents Discovery’s Pretoria edition.

 

Walkers lined the streets of Groenkloof, Pretoria on Heritage Day, 2013.

 

Ambassadors including: Pierre Spies, Arno Botha, Kerry McGregor, Melinda Bam, Marc Mundell, Wayne Snyman and Bruce Fordyce attended on the day.

 

Performances from The Parlotones and Bobby van Jaarsveld – representing a diverse blend of South African cultural heritage; represented at the 2013 Springwalk event.

 

3. Good Morning Angels High tea

“It’s all things Gatsby in 2013”

 

Over 700 of Gauteng’s top business owners, entertainers and celebrities joined Jacaranda FM in a Gatsby-themed afternoon, to contribute to the GMA cause. Jacaranda FM confirmed that over R 900 000 was raised through ticket sales and prize auctions.

 

 

 “The 29th October 2013, was an indication of the dozens of individuals and organisations who want to make a sincere and meaningful contribution to those in need. The Good Morning Angels initiative affords Jacaranda FM the privilege of connecting those in need with those who are able to make a positive change to these people’s lives – a position that we are very blessed to hold.” - Kevin Fine, General manager -
 

4. Sisters with Blisters

Headline sponsors, 1st for Women, have been supporting Sisters with Blisters in association with Jacaranda FM for 8 consecutive years.

 

This year’s event show-cased the highest turnout of supporters on the day!

 

R680 600 was raised on the day for the two beneficiary organisations: Women and Men Against Child Abuse and the Sonke Gender Justice Network, receiving R 340 300 respectively. Sonke will use the money to further create the change necessary for men, women, and children to enjoy healthy and happy relationships that contribute to the development of fair and democratic societies, while Women and Men Against Child Abuse aims to continue raising awareness by breaking the silence surrounding the sexual abuse of children. 

 

 

5. Carols by Candlelight

Headline sponsor, Spar, provided picnic baskets to event attendees in Pretoria and; the Johannesburg crowd were treated to a special Christmas atmosphere at the Northgate Dome.

 

All monies raised from candle and songbook sales at Carols events were donated to the station’s Good Morning Angels cause.

 

Over 350 boxes of toys were donated to various orphanages around the Pretoria and Johannesburg regions.
