Gas shortage hits SA
Updated | By sibahle motha
With the cold winter nights setting in, there has been a spike in demand says gas supplier Afrox.
On top of the increase in demand, a number of refineries are on shutdown or about to commence scheduled shutdowns.
Afrox spokesperson Simon Miller says some refineries are also not generating at full capacity
“There is a national shortage of product, mitigated in part by Afrox's import facility at Richards Bay,” Miller says. “However, the logistics of trunking LPG across the country to filling sites and onward trunking to distributors and bulk customers has placed our transport fleet under severe pressure.”
Miller says this pressure has been mounting over the last few weeks due to a spike in demand for Handigas.
“We expect the situation to remain very tight for the next few weeks,” he warns.
