Popcru: SA robbed of truth about Hani’s death

Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) says it’s disappointed that Clive Derby-Lewis, the man convicted for the murder of SACP leader Chris Hani, was granted medical parole on Friday.

Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says the whole country has been robbed of knowing what happened when Hani was murdered.

“Derby-Lewis has never shown remorse. He has not come out to say who he was working with and who funded the operation to kill Hani,” he says.

The convicted killer is suffering from terminal lung cancer.

Derby-Lewis is serving a life sentence and in his first application which was denied by Justice Minister Michael Masutha the medical expert involved said the lung cancer had not spread.

Two independent doctors later diagnosed Lewis with stage four cancer.

Judge Selby Baqwa when handing down the ruling said Deby-Lewis had only six months to live.
