'Over 5 million social media hits on coronavirus hashtags in SA'- Expert

The rapid spread of coronavirus in South Africa had social media abuzz, with related hashtags receiving more than 5 million hits over the past week.

South Africa has seen the total cases increasing from only 1 to 150 in 14 days, leading to President Cyril Ramaphosa declaring a national disaster in the country.

Director of Acumen Media Management, Tonya Khoury says she is disappointed at the images shared on social media of citizens 'stock piling'.
"We have seen images of people with three to four trolley loads of goods standing next to a fellow South African with just a loaf of bread."
She adds that there are doubts from social media users on the transparency of government.
