SA hits 1m Covid-19 test landmark, as virus continues to surge

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that South Africa has managed to test 1 million people for Covid-19.

Mkhize was speaking in the Eastern Cape on Thursday.
South Africa now has 58 568 confirmed cases, an increase of 3147 cases from Wednesday.

"The fact that we have backlogs does not undermine the fact that today we have reached the landmark of 1 million tests in the country. That does not mean that that is enough," said Mkhize
Mkhize expressed concern over the increase in cases in the Eastern Cape, which is now at 7868.
He said the infection rate is expected to reach its peak in the coming months.
