Sharlene Coopoosammy: Survivor walks again after bus accident

In 2019, Sharlene Coopoosammy was hit by a bus in Pretoria, leaving her bedridden for over two years with untreated fractures. With no medical aid and long hospital delays, her dream of walking and working again to support her mother seemed out of reach.

In March 2021, we met Sharlene Coopoosammy.

She was just 37 years old and bedridden for more than two years, after a bus hit her.

The accident happened in the Pretoria CBD in October 2019, as Sharlene was on her way to work at a sweet shop in the city.

She clung to life and, after five months of care at the state hospital, went home. The wound care was excellent, with skin grafts that healed well. However, her pelvis, broken in three places, feet and dislocated hip were never mended, and as a result, she could not bend or walk.

Sharlene's biggest wish was to be able to walk and work to earn a living again to support herself and her ageing mother, Sylvia Naidoo.

The state hospital would not be able to operate on her hip and feet for many years, and without medical aid, Sharlene had no means to pay for private care. That's why her friends wrote to Good Morning Angels to help their incredible and inspirational friend.

In this episode of Good Morning Angels: The Legacy, Sharlene Coopoosammy and her mom, Sylvia Naidoo, tell the story of how their lives were touched by Angels.
