Assisting the NSPCA to fight for the rights of animals in SA
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Good Morning Angels donated R100,000 to the NSPCA to help them carry out their vital mandate to watch over and fight for the rights of animals in South Africa.

The NSPCA are the guardians of all animals in SA, but they desperately need your help to fight for the rights of the animals we love.
South Africa is renowned for its wealth of wild animals – the Big Five, the Little Five, and everything in between.
We're also known for agriculture and high-quality livestock, and there is hardly a home without a pet. To say that South Africans love animals and often depend on them is an understatement.

Unfortunately, this also creates opportunities for the exploitation and abuse of animals, and that’s where the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) comes in.
The NSPCA is a non-profit organisation mandated to protect the rights of animals in all their forms across South Africa – a daunting task. Their work is far-reaching, specialised, and expensive.
As the guardians of animal rights, they rely purely on donations to fund their operations. Broadly, the NSPCA works within communities, alongside lawmakers, the SAPS, and in the fields of science and research. They also have dedicated specialist units:
Wildlife Protection Unit
The NSPCA’s Wildlife Protection Unit actively participates in national and provincial forums to bring about change in how wild animals are used in the wildlife industry in South Africa. Proactive inspections and investigations create opportunities to change mindsets, improve captive conditions, and take legal action when animals are neglected or abused.
Farm Animal Protection Unit (FAPU)
The NSPCA’s FAPU consists of skilled Inspectors who operate across South Africa, both reactively and proactively. The use and abuse of farm animals, now, by legal definition, including crocodiles and certain species of wildlife, far exceed any other form of mistreatment, simply due to the vast numbers involved.

Special Projects Unit
This unit is responsible for a broad range of portfolios, all working towards the humane treatment of animals, the prevention of cruelty, and the upliftment of animal welfare. The use of animals in recreation, guarding, exhibitions, and sports forms the core focus of this unit.
There have been several high-profile cases of animal cruelty this year, and it’s up to the NSPCA to represent the animals. They need all the help they can get!
